Track Name: chapter 8, pg. 129
in the beginning is the song and the song is the beginning. the foundation stone, the bedrock on which the popular-music industry rests. the song is the basic raw material out of which a performance is made. this is where the process starts.before a recording session is arranged, before rehearsals are called, before the arrangements are composed, there must be the song. everything begins with the songwriter, who shapes a melody out of imagination and his own creative impulses. between the composition of a song and its eventual performance and recording, however, there lies a rocky road full of unexpected pitfalls and hazards.

-- excerpt from john rublowsky's book, Popular Music, 1967
Track Name: traffic is okay
traffic was okay
the day wasn't so bad
walk slowly through the rain
cause i love it

golden sun's gone away
storm clouds above my head
my shoes are soaked
and im whistling to myself

there ain't no other day
like the day im currently in
walking through the rain
cause i love it

storm clouds wash me away
trade me in for a pair of sneakers
i wanna get some
get some new ones
waterproof ones
so i can keep dancing
Track Name: how to draw
how to do you draw a face
what do you do with the eyes
what do you do with the nose
what do you do with the ears
what do you do for the mouth
what do you do for the hair
Track Name: blue sweatshirt
quiet hour
dirty hair
little song
dark sky
alone i
walk around
kicking rocks
tonight
i watch
the tv screen
it's my computer
we've become one thing
rainy day
blue sweatshirt
bring me comfort
in this weather
Track Name: yellow jacket II (excerpt)
me and my mom got the same jacket
me and my mom know how to rock it
yellow rain jacket, no inside pockets
inner fleece lining, it's a classic
Track Name: yellow jacket
there is a fog machine
under a table cloth
it's not halloween
but this is a haunted house

so i take off
and then i take off my clothes
get into bed alone
i am glad to be home

later on
i sing my song
it is a rainy day
with my yellow jacket on

i sing
how are you?
how are you today?
but i get no response

i can move through the fog
but it is the fog machine
that i cannot move through

i would haunt the house
but I'm not in the house
i am somewhere else

and the truth is
i only wore the yellow jacket
cause i couldn't find
the one i wanted
Track Name: hahaha
HA
HA
HA
Track Name: computer screen
it is dark in my bedroom
i am holding out my arms
and the light from the computer
guides me to my bed
i am small

when i said i was lonely
i was only kidding
i am content
in my bedroom
all alone

sometimes i want a hand
to hold with my hand
though i am okay
holding my pillow
the computer

keeps me computer (computer)
the house has gone to sleep (computer)
i wake up and make tea (computer)
will you be my window?

frame the indigo sky (computer)
the sun is about to rise (computer)
i will one day die (computer)
will you be my window?

show me peacefulness (computer)
that quiet carefulness (computer)
cause i can't get any rest (computer)
will you be my window?

can i learn how to let go?
